A THEATRICAL MINISTRY BUILDING SELF-ESTEEM IN FAMILIES, TEENS AND CHILDREN IN CENTRAL MISSOURI.

Discover a sincere sense of belonging and find YOUR purpose. Know you are valuable as a human being and see others in the same way.

We don’t have to just accept bullying as a part of the human experience.
We don’t have to watch our youth be drawn into drugs and gangs and destroyed by the world or taken by suicide because we don’t have the tools to help them overcome.

This is most definitely a Spirit-led ministry. But you do not have to be a believer or know scripture from Genesis to Revelations to be a part of our family. If you have a longing for purpose in your life, if you need to feel like you belong to something bigger and better than you areby yourself, if you want to know that you are valued and cared for, if you want to feel a purpose in your life or to be involved in something deeply meaningful … if you feel strongly about wanting to make the world a better place or to do something to bring light and love to a world that is so hurtful right now … Maxwell Theatrical is YOUR place and we WELCOME you!

OUR MISSION

At Maxwell Theatrical Self Image our mission is to teach families to build confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. We use the stage as a place to act out their anger (rather than using knives, guns and suicide). Our stage plays focus on messages of love, speaking out against bullying, and teaching how we should treat each other as human beings. We show that every single person has worth and is valuable in the eyes of God and what it looks like to treat them as such. We also demonstrate all those messages in the way we operate and interact within our theatrical family. We treat each other as family and show families how to treat each other, by walking the walk not just talking the talk. That doesn’t mean we are perfect, no family is, but we love each other and want to honor each other and the ministry God has entrusted to us.

OUR WHY

Maxwell Theatrical was founded in Denver, CO by Dr. Elvira Maxwell and her husband in 1999 after the tragic murder of both of their sons. In her season of grief and despair, Dr. Maxwell knew that God was her source of strength and the author of her healing. She understood that God wanted her to use her writing to turn her pain into power and start the healing process. She also realized that this was not just about her healing, but actually, a ministry that would touch the lives of many others and serve as a way to prevent other families from suffering the same experience or loss.

Dr. Maxwell has now written over 27 stage plays and has participated in every role from producer, to director to actor. She and her husband find true joy in giving and they consider it a great blessing to help people. In 2019, Dr. & Mr. Maxwell moved to Columbia to support their grandson who went to prison at the young age of 17 and came out with mental health problems. In a leap of faith, they invested their savings to open up their theatrical center in Columbia, MO at 605 N. Providence Road.

In God’s wisdom, the Maxwells have seen how a theatrical ministry is the perfect opportunity to reach at-risk families. It is something that anyone of any age and background can participate in. Whether you like to be on stage or behind the scenes, whether you are interested in art, lighting, audio systems, or if you like using your hands to build and move things – there is a place for everyone here! Each person has something to offer or contribute – a unique gift that God has given them to use for a higher purpose and to realize their talents and worth. In addition, this ministry creates the opportunity to be a member of a community where people are treated as they should be and can experience how different it is from what the world offers. This becomes exponentially powerful when our members then share what they have learned and know with others who are in need of belonging, self-esteem, and a safe space to be.

You possess skills and experiences that are unique and FOR A PURPOSE. At Maxwell Theatrical Self Image, we want you to know this first hand, and be confident enough to help others with the same love and help that you receive. If that is something your heart desires, we can’t wait to meet you!

GET INVOLVED

YOU CAN HELP!

In today’s world, so many parents are working all the time to provide, and children are often on their own to take care of themselves or left with older siblings/youth. Kids get drawn into drug use, gang activity, and worse – leading down a path from which they may never recover. If these problems are not solved, it leads to devastation in our families and our communities. It is imperative that families are equipped with the tools they need while children are young and can be redirected.

IF YOU CAN RELATE TO THESE CONCERNS BECAUSE YOUR FAMILY IS AT RISK, OR BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE HEART TO HELP AT-RISK FAMILIES … THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS YOU CAN BE INVOLVED AND SUPPORT THE MISSION INCLUDING(BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
